Meet Amanda Dowson
Consultant Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner
Amanda Dowson is a highly experienced Occupational Health specialist with over 30 years of dedicated practice across a wide range of industries and service sectors. Since beginning her career in Occupational Health in 1991, Amanda has worked both as an employed practitioner, founder and managing director of a successful occupational health and hygiene service, and more recently, an independent consultant, delivering expert occupational health services to sectors including construction, chemicals, manufacturing, education, healthcare, and engineering.
Amanda’s deep understanding of occupational health legislation, workplace health risk management, and regulatory compliance has positioned her as a respected figure within the field. She has worked closely with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Association of Colleges on the development of key national guidance, including HSG257: Occupational Health Services in Higher and Further Education, and contributed to the Teacher Training Agency’s ‘Able to Teach’ framework, addressing disability discrimination and fitness to teach in the education sector.

Holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Integrated Safety, Health and Environmental Management and is a certified ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 Internal Auditor.
Health Risk Assessment: Amanda assists organisations navigate complex health risks, prepare robust tender packs, engage effectively with OH providers, and respond confidently to HSE interventions—supporting compliance, emergency response planning, and tailored health strategies to ensure fitness for work and health surveillance requirements reflect evolving workforce needs.
Training & Development: Amanda has extensive experience delivering specialist training, clinical supervision, and presenting at national conferences, alongside providing mentorship to developing professionals. As a postgraduate-qualified Practice Teacher and Assessor, she has also contributed to the development of OFQUAL-accredited training programmes for Occupational Health Technicians, supporting high standards in workforce competence and professional development.
Ergonomics & DSE: Amanda delivers MSK risk reduction strategies focused on workplace design and task-specific activity analysis to minimise exposure and prevent injury. Programmes are tailored to high-risk roles and environments, helping businesses meet regulatory requirements and reduce sickness absence costs.
She provides targeted training on upper limb disorders, push/pull risks, ergonomic design, safe material and manual handling, and Display Screen Equipment (DSE) user and assessor training for managers, safety professionals, and employees.
Support continues through the development of early intervention approaches and evidence-based rehabilitation programmes that promote recovery, reduce long-term absence, and sustain workforce productivity

Julian Dowson is a highly experienced Licentiate Occupational Hygienist and Director with a proven track record in leading health risk management and occupational hygiene programmes across a wide range of sectors. With a background in vocational education and senior leadership, he brings a rare blend of technical expertise, strategic insight, and practical training delivery to the field of workplace health protection.
Julian is known for his pragmatic and solution-focused approach to managing workplace hazards, supporting businesses to move beyond compliance and embed effective, sustainable control strategies. His expertise spans everything from high-level risk strategy to frontline engagement—delivering visual, accessible training and toolbox talks that resonate with employees and managers alike.
He has presented at national conferences and designed specialist training programmes for employees, operational leaders, and occupational health, safety and hygiene professionals, helping organisations improve their risk management culture and reduce work-related ill health.
